BUILD THE FOX TTL FOXHUNT TRANSMITTER BY DAVE PELAEZ

73's Nov'98

Description: This is a project to build a fox transmitter that uses the third harmonic of a 49.3 MHz computer clock osc unit with a three pole high pass filter. The output is 15 milliwatts. A 555 is on the board for a tone oscillator.

8 SWITCH ATTENUATOR BOX

ARRL HB CHP 25 FIG 72

Description: The project is an 8-stage attenuator for the front of a receiver to aid in transmitter hunting. The pc boards supplied are pre cut to be soldered together to form the box with individual dividers between each switch. The top is cut out to mount slide switches. The switches provide (3) 20db, 10db, 5db, 3db, 2db and 1db steps of attenuation. The handbook describes the resistor values for the Pi network or T network configurations.

BUILD THE HANDI-FINDER

QST MAY 93

Description: This is a direction finder that has a butterfly antenna mounted on the P C Board. It uses the phased audio from a FM or AM receiver produced by the switching of the antenna to indicate a front to back direct. The unit will work in a 45 to 470 MHz radio.

ROANOKE DOPPLER DF

TRANSMITTER HUNTING BY JOSEPH MOELL

Description: This is a Roanoke Doppler DF unit that uses three boards, a main board, 16 circular LED display board and a antenna switch board. The antenna switch board is the circuit that Joe published in his 73s column that does not require the 1/4 wave feed lines. The display board uses a 4514, three 75492s and 16 LEDs. The main board uses two LM324, a CD4051, two 555, CD4049, 74LS75, 7445, CD4024, CD4028, and LM7805 ICs.

Comment: Perry Scott, KB0MCB, reports that he and several friends have built this and says it works great.

Comment: Ian Ashford G8PWE, reports: "Went together well no faults found. Construction skill level -beginner. The only problem with this design were the LED driver IC's. I had some success with specialist obsolete parts suppliers, they were not expensive. The new wideband switcher works very well. I used cheap out of spec PIN diodes from a UK supplier called J Birkett Electronics. (I understand Fair Radio sales in US has similar setup)"

DOPPLER TO RS232 ADAPTOR FOR JOE MOELL DF PROJECT IN "TRANSMITTER HUNTING"

HOMING IN

Description: A low cost Doppler to (RS232) APRS Interface designed by Swain KA4JSR/N7LUE. Complete description with schematics and parts list can be viewed at http://members.aol.com/joek0ov/dopp2aprs.html.

32 LED MONTREAL DOPPLER BY VE2JX AND VE2EMM

Description: This is a two board (main board and display board) Doppler project that uses the Moell antenna switch board. The project uses 4 IC's: PIC16C72, MAX294, MAX494, and 74HC4051. Complete details can be viewed at http://www.colba.net/~jacbro/picproj.html.

VE2EMM 32 LED DOPPLER DIRECTION FINDER WITH PROGRAMMED PIC PROCESSOR

Description: This is the PC Board and Programmed PIC processor for a 32 circular LED display Doppler DF project. I have seen this one and it works great and was made in a small (4"x4"x 1") package by the designer. The project uses a PIC processor and 4 other IC's. The circuit has an audio filer that uses two MAX IC's. The circuit will work with the Moell antenna switch board which is included. Package includes Documentation, three PC boards and programmed PIC processor. Details can be found at http://www.colba.net/~jacbro/index.html

Comment: Ian Ashford G8PWE, reports: "I was astounded by the performance of this unit compared with the Roanoke! (probably due to the inbuilt PIC processor for the display) Construction level -advanced. Component sourcing ..no problem (Jaques mailed me the PIC).The unit worked well. I used your Roanoke Wideband switcher with this design with no problems. The PCB is so small I mounted them back to back vertically. This makes for a very compact dashmounted unit -ideal for the smaller vehicle!"
